Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then found many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in connection with the event," they added.
City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the public for tips.
A senior official stated the incident made him speechless and required to be solved promptly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on people of migrant background in five years prior.
